Central University of Kashmir to hold first Convocation on July 4 | KNO

Srinagar, June 25 (KNO) : Central University of Kashmir (CUK) is organising its maiden Convocation on 4th of July, 2018 at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) here. Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India Prof. (Dr.) K. VijayRaghavan will be the Chief Guest on the occasion and will deliver the Convocation address while as former Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Prof. (Dr.) S. K Banerjee would be the guest of honour. Honourable Governor, Jammu and Kashmir, Shri. N N Vohra would preside over the function, which will begin at 10:30 AM.

In addition to those receiving degrees in absentia, as many as 1057 students, including 56 gold medallists are going to receive the degrees and gold medals in person. In addition to this, 24 research scholars are also going to be awarded research degrees during the convocation. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir has constituted several Committees headed by senior faculty members to oversee the arrangements for holding the convocation and to ensure that the event is successful.

Many of the students who have graduated from the university have brought laurels to the varsity. Their academic achievements and other pass out students shall be felicitated during the convocation. The students who have passed out till date shall be admitted to their degrees in this maiden convocation of the university. Every stakeholder including students, teachers and staff of the CUK is upbeat about the conduct of the event. Several dignitaries, luminaries, bureaucrats, academic and professional experts, Vice-Chancellors, State functionaries, members of various statutory bodies of the CUK, are also expected to attend the first convocation of this premier institute of higher learning.

After its establishment, the CUK is at present offering 16 post graduate programmes, five integrated programmes, two undergraduate programmes, eight research programmes and one B.Voc and two Certificate programmes. The University started its academic journey in the year 2010 with the launch of three Post-Graduate programmes in English, Management Studies and Information Technology.

The university later added more Post-Graduate, Under-Graduate, Integrated and Diploma programmes over the years. The varsity launched Law, Mathematics, and Convergent Journalism in the year 2011, Education, Tourism Studies, Urdu, Economics in 2012, Political Science, LLM in 2013, B.Ed in 2014, Integrated B.Sc.-M.Sc in Physics, Zoology, Bio-Technology, M.Ed, Comparative Religion in 2015, B. Voc in Tourism and Travel Management and B. Voc in Retail and Logistic Management, P.G Diploma in Guidance and Counselling, Integrated B.Sc-M.Sc Mathematics and Certificate skill Development Courses (DTP, Applied Food Production) in 2016.

The university converted the M. Sc Information Technology programme to M.Tech Information Technology and admitted the students for this progamme. In addition to all these programmes, the varsity started integrated research degree programmes from the year 2013. The university started research programmes in English, and Management in the year 2012, Education, Tourism Studies, Law, and Urdu in 2014, Economics and Mathematics in 2015. The admission to all the programmes including research degree programmes offered by the CUK and other sister universities is jointly conducted by the consortium of 10 Central Universities on the basis of Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET).

The varsity has introduced a detailed plan showing Curriculum Transaction Strategy (CTS) with the objective to keep the students aware well in advance about the content, method of delivery and ready references at micro level (unit base) for the entire semester. The university has also adopted a comprehensive scheme of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with a big basket of courses falling under Skill Enhancement Courses, Ability Enhancement Courses and Open Generic Electives. The curriculum of all the programmes is upgraded to address the needs of different stakeholders including public and private sector. The university since recent past has been focussing more on skill based technical courses and integrated programmes to ensure employability of the graduates and to also make them skilled.
